From the EC 10/17/2021

Well hello everybody. It has been a while since I have sent out an update for the group. Things have been really busy here.

First of all I would like to invite you all th the Kaufman County Amateur Radio Association monthly meeting. The EC and both Assistant EC’s will be there and it would be a good way for all of us to meet up. No pressure to join the club. The meeting is:

Calvary Fellowship Church

11405 CR 123

Kaufman, TX 75142

3rd Tuesday of the month

at 7:00 PM

Fall storm season is on us and a week or so ago we were reminded of that fact. Since we really didn’t have issues here in the county doesn’t mean that we need to let our guard down. I know most of you are not SKYWARN certified yet but that doesn’t mean that you can’t help out during severe weather.

I do need those of you that are still with us to contact me so we know what our resources are and give me and our AEC’s an idea where we need to improve the organization so we are ready if we are called on to handle communications in an emergency.

We have made a deal with Billy AK5DX to use two of his repeaters on a secondary basis. This agreement is so we are able to better cover the west side of the county if we are needed but that doesn’t mean we can’t use them for every day use. We are there on a secondary basis for now. If you feel the need to check in during a weather event please make sure they are in ARES mode not RACES. The repeaters are:

442.625 PL 110.9

147.040 PL 141.3

You are free to use these machines unless Mesquite Ares, Races or Mesquite need to use the machines

If any of you are currently using Winlink at your station please get in touch with me. This months Section Emergency Test will involve moving messages via Winlink. If you can help out please let me know.

Well that’s pretty much it for this time. I can only think of one more thing. We may need to make a minor name change for the ARES group. I will keep you informed on that situation as it develops. Please hold off on ordering name badges and such until we are sure what is going on there.

Thanks everybody
