You know the thing that really gets my goat is that the true believers want so desperately for some things to be true they are willing to except the biggest pile of crap you have ever seen as proof of the paranormal, cryptozoological, or conspiracy theories. They will even believe people that have a proven track record of hoaxing evidence and telling out right lies. One thing that would give paranormal research far more credibility is to run the hoaxers out of the field.
An example. The Georgia Bigfoot hoax of 2008.

For those that don’t remember. In 2009 there were reports of a Bigfoot body found in Georgia by a sheriffs deputy Matt Whitton and his friend Rick Dyer. They put the body in a freezer and contacted Carine (Tom) Biscardi at Searching for Bigfoot, Inc. Biscardi along with Steve Kulls (a.k.a. The Squatch Detective) went and examined the body and proceeded to convince the Media and the world that the body was the real deal. They had several press conferences and even got coverage from FOX news.
Keep in mind that the supposed body was encased in ice in a home freezer and could not be physically examined because it was encased in a block of ice. Check out the Video

When the house of cards began to unravel because the body was identified as a commonly available Halloween costume the blame shifting began. Biscardi said that it was all the boys from Georgia’s idea. However he failed to admit that this was not the first time that he had tried to con people out of money by creating a hoax. Whitton and Dyer felt that since Whitton was a Deputy Sheriff they might be able to pull it off. that just goes to show that the people we have been told are trust worthy will lie too. Steve Kulls tried desperately to convince everybody that Whitton, Dyer and Biscardi had conned him as well. Steve would have been more credible if it had not been for his insistence that the New York Baby Video was real.
So who is the real loser? The paranormal, crypto, Bigfoot community. This hoax had international news coverage. The people that think Bigfoot is a joke now have proof that it is crap. This is because a hoaxer wasn’t run off the first time that he tried to generate a scam. He was allowed to stay among the good folks that are trying to answer the question “What is Bigfoot”.
That takes us back to the last article. A perfect example lust for greed and fame. Now Bigfoot researchers will have to spend years rebuilding their credibility.
Now don’t get me wrong. I do believe that it is possible that there is an unidentified species roaming the woods, forest, and mountains of North America. New species are discovered all the time. But I need more proof than a costume in a freezer.
Make it your goal to get rid of the hoaxers.
